We're hiring mechanics.
McElroys has been on the same corner of South 6th Avenue since 1927. If you want steady work at a shop that is not going anywhere, run by people who are in the building, we would like to talk to you.
Estamos contratando mecánicos. Se habla español.
Why work here.
There is no shortage of places in Tucson that will hire a mechanic. Here is what is actually different about this one.
The shop is not going anywhere
We opened in 1927. We have been at 2104 S. 6th Ave. through the Depression, the war, and every change the industry has thrown at us since. That is not nostalgia — it means the job you take here is not dependent on a regional manager's quarterly numbers or a private equity owner's exit plan.
Independent, not a chain
Nobody here is measured on parts sold or upsell rate. We diagnose the fault, quote the repair, and tell the customer what can wait. If you have worked somewhere that pushed you to sell work the car did not need, you will notice the difference in the first week.
Actual variety
On the same day you might scan a late-model truck, do brakes on a minivan, and set up a carburetor on something built in the sixties. We are The Drive Tucson's official classic car mechanic and we fabricate custom exhaust in house, which is a mix of work most shops cannot offer.
You'll be dealing with people who stay
Our reputation is 1,013 reviews at 4.9 stars, and a lot of those customers are third-generation. That changes the job: you are not processing strangers, you are looking after cars whose owners you will see again.
What we're generally looking for
Automotive technicians at a range of experience levels. Diagnostic ability matters more to us than a long résumé, and bilingual English/Spanish is a real asset in this neighborhood. ASE certification is valued — every technician here holds it.
How to apply
Right now the fastest route is direct. Call (520) 623-1921 and ask about openings, or stop by the shop during business hours and ask for Dago or Brenda. Bring whatever record of your experience you have — certifications, references, or just a list of what you have worked on.
We are at 2104 S. 6th Ave., open Monday to Friday 8am–5pm and Saturday 8am–1pm. Directions are here.
